Mdm Haslinda, 46 years old, has been struggling with her health issues even as her children’s main caregiver. She has three children (23, 18 and 11) from her previous marriage, and a fourth child (6) from her current marriage.

When the caseworkers met Mdm Haslinda, she shared with us how the past months have taken a great toll on her emotionally. Her husband whom she shares an estranged relationship with, works as a private hire driver and is the family’s sole breadwinner. However, he has chosen to only support their youngest child financially, and not Mdm Haslinda and her 11-year-old daughter who is staying with them. Mdm Haslinda’s two older children are currently in the care of their biological father.

In view of her health issues, Mdm Haslinda has not been able to find full-time employment. She has a low blood count, low heart functionality (<25%), severe breathlessness, diabetes and has a tumour in her kidney. For close to a year, she has been doing home-based clothing sales, and earns between $200 to $300 a month to pay for her children’s expenses. Unfortunately, her health condition now deters her from seeking full-time employment due to the frequency of her follow-up appointments, following her recent hospital admission.

“I am struggling in my current condition, but I do not want my children to suffer with me. I want them to feel loved”, Mdm Haslinda told us. Mdm Haslinda plans to file a divorce, in hope of protecting her children from her husband’s verbal abuse.

Despite her struggles, Mdm Haslinda hopes to seek employment so that she can support her children. Ray of Hope wishes to raise $3,000 ($500 x 6 months) to help Mdm Haslinda with her monthly expenses for:

1. Groceries expenses ($200/month), and
2. Children’s expenses ($300/month)
