Mr Tan*, aged 67, lives together with his wife and two adult children. His relationship with his family is estranged and they are not in talking terms with him despite living under the same roof. In 2006, Mr Tan was diagnosed with Myastehnia Gravis – a neuromuscular autoimmune disease that affects his breathing, arms and legs. He tries his best to spend minimally to save money for his Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to have treatment on his tight muscles.
