Her father became ill last August. He was hospitalised in September 2018. Following this, he discharged himself to return to work, where he subsequently lost his job. He has been diagnosed with liver cirrhosis and diabetes. He is suffering with severe pain nerves in his feet making walking very painful, even when he is walking at home. His lungs are also weak, making daily tasks challenging and worrying for the rest of the family. Her mother is also a foreigner and not able to work as she is the main caregiver for her husband and 3 children.
They are dependent on financial assistance which ended in November and the different resources (food rations, learning opportunities, activities etc) from the different agencies in the community. Her mother supports the needs of the family and volunteers in the community. She is unable to take her exam results until the outstanding school fees are paid. Amelia is trying her best in school, she wants to get her PR to be able to attend Poly. She wants to get a good job so she can support her family. They live frugally and somehow manage to juggle on the small income they have
