In October 2024, Mdm Devi reached out to us in a moment of need. As a mother with chronic asthma, she is medically unfit for work, leaving her unable to provide for her family in the way she hopes. Late last year, Mdm Devi suffered a fractured ankle and a painful neck swelling. These cause her more worries for her family. Instead of simply letting her children fend for themselves, Mdm Devi chose to take action, seeking resources to help her family sustain and thrive. This is where we can step in and offer our support.

Mdm Devi’s love for her children is unwavering. Despite her chronic health condition, she tries hard to secure her children’s futures. Her youngest,

preparing for the N-levels, and her fourth child soon to enlist, are at critical junctures in

their lives. Mdm Devi refuses to let her own struggles limit their opportunities. She shares, “I’m always thinking, what can I do next to help myself? I don’t want to only be reliant on others.” Her resilience is a testament to her deep commitment to her family, and her determination to support her children in everything that makes them happy—except for any wrongdoing.

Mdm Devi’s chronic asthma leaves her medically unfit for work, but she hasn’t let this stop her from exploring options to sustain her family. With the support of Ray of Hope, she’s been able to meet her family’s basic needs, but she continues to work towards a long-term solution. Mdm Devi has recently connected with Comcare to seek their support, and with encouragement from her family service centre, she has done her part in submitting the required documents to the hospital and now awaiting their report. This report will enable her to access her Dependent Protection Scheme (DPS) payout, but it will take time—up to 6 weeks for processing.

While waiting for her DPS application to be processed, Mdm Devi needs support to cover her family’s living expenses. We are helping her with six months of living assistance, $1,000 per month, to ease the financial pressure and provide the stability her family needs during this period.

She has made the choice not to let her children face the challenges of life alone, seeking out the resources and support they need to sustain.
