For the past 15 years, Mdm Sarah has been doing her best to provide for her family, putting her children’s needs above her own. As a single mother of five, she worked tirelessly to ensure her children had food on the table, even if it meant sacrificing her own comfort. When she moved into her current rental unit in 2010, there was no time to think about making the space feel like home. Every piece of furniture she owns has been salvaged or second-hand, and any thought of renovation was always out of reach. Now, at 52, Mdm Sarah continues to care for her youngest son (9) and her granddaughter while struggling with worsening knee pain that limits her ability to work.
Despite her hardships, Mdm Sarah has always dreamed of having a warm, comfortable home—a place where her children and grandchildren can gather freely without shame or discomfort. Today, she needs your help to make that dream a reality.
A Home That Tells a Story of Struggles and Strength
Mdm Sarah’s small rental unit is more than just a roof over her head. It is a testament to years of resilience, sacrifice, and love. However, the living conditions have become increasingly difficult:
- Sleeping arrangements: Mdm Sarah and the children sleep in the hall on a thin mattress, while her husband often sleeps directly on the floor to allow his family some comfort. When the rest of the family comes to visit (taking the household size up to 8 pax), everyone makes do on the floor in the hall.
- Cramped and cluttered space: The family has no proper storage, relying on luggage bags and secondhand furniture to keep their belongings.
- Inadequate kitchen space: Cooking has always been Mdm Sarah’s passion, but her kitchen is too small and lacks functional cabinetry. She even has to use her blender on the floor due to a lack of counter space.
- Lack of privacy: The kitchen is directly visible from the front door, leaving her feeling exposed in her own home. Because of this, she even wears a tudung indoors for modesty.
- Emotional distress: Having lived in these conditions for so long, Mdm Sarah often feels ashamed and isolated. She dreams of a space where she can welcome guests, host Hari Raya celebrations, and create lasting memories with her family.

A Chance for a Fresh Start
“For 15 years, I had absolutely no means to beautify my own home. Everything I own is second-hand. When people throw items away, I take them back home with me.” – Mdm Sarah
“Some people have told me to renovate my toilet, but they don’t know how much their words hurt me. Because nobody wants an ugly house.”
By contributing to this campaign, you are not just funding a renovation—you are giving Mdm Sarah and her family a renewed sense of dignity and hope. You are helping create a space where they can heal, grow, and welcome loved ones with open arms.
