Campaign Story

SJI (International) Debate Society proudly presents Lasallian Debate League 2020! Lasallian Debate League (LDL) is an annual charity high school debating tournament, open to both institution and composite teams, locally and internationally. Due to COVID19, LDL 2020 will be hosted online on the 29th and 30th of August.

All proceeds from LDL 2020 will go towards It’s Raining Raincoats (IRR). IRR is an initiative for the benefit of migrant workers, providing protection during their metaphorical thunderstorms. Founded by Dipa Swaminathan in 2014, it has gained an incredible amount of traction, using that support to aid migrant workers in Singapore. IRR received the President’s Award for Volunteerism and Philanthropy in 2017 – testimony to their meaningful impact in Singapore’s community.

As COVID cases in the SG migrant worker community soar, many workers are inundated with basic physiological and economic troubles: they are in need of extra food and require help paying rent, amongst other issues. IRR helps to alleviate the impact of the COVID crisis on the migrant worker community.

Any additional contribution to their cause would be greatly appreciated and would fund the work IRR is doing to help migrant workers.

More details on the tournament can be found on https://sjiidebate.wixsite.com/ldl2020 or https://www.facebook.com/LasallianDebateLeagueSJII. The SJI (International) Debate Society can be contacted at debatingsociety@sji-international.com.sg.

About ItsRainingRaincoats

ItsRainingRaincoats was founded by Dipa Swaminathan, a Harvard educated lawyer and Singaporean, in 2015. It is an initiative for the benefit of migrant workers. IRR aims to improve the lives of migrant workers in Singapore, and build bridges to strengthen their integration into our broader community by using imaginative, innovative, authentic and nimble strategies. The raincoat symbolises the protection IRR provides them from their metaphorical thunderstorms.
