“I do not wish for my daughters to suffer together with me.”
Campaign started on 04/02/2021Campaign Story
Mdm Rumi is a mother of two young children aged 5 and 1 respectively. The 35-year-old Bangladeshi was married to her allegedly abusive husband after having her first child. The alleged verbal and physical abuse was due to her husband’s failed business and it continued till she had her second child.
The strong mother of two suffered in silence out of fear that she would be sent home to Bangladesh if she reported the incidents of abuse to the authorities. Mdm Rumi now lives apart from her estranged husband who has stopped supporting the family financially and they are in the midst of filing for a divorce. She now lives in a rental flat with her 58-year-old mother and two daughters.
Mdm Rumi is now struggling with her family’s living expenses as nobody in the family is earning an income. Due to her Long Term Visit Pass Plus (LTVP+) status, she does not qualify for government assistance. She hopes to seek employment once she is able to place her youngest child in infant care. Even though Mdm Rumi struggles to provide financially for her children, she ensures that they are taken care of with the best of her abilities.
Ray of Hope hopes to raise $3,500 ($700 x 5 months) for the family’s food and groceries expenses. We hope Mdm Rumi will be able to gain employment soon!
*Mdm Rumi is not receiving financial assistance from the government due to her LTVP+ status.Â
