Campaign Summary

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, cleaners everywhere in Singapore are working extra hard to keep us safe from the virus.

To show our appreciation, we want to give them healthkits in this time of need.

Each healthkit will cost approximately $50 and contain (but not restricted to) the following:

1. Knee guard
2. Yoko Yoko / Counterpain muscle rub
3. Foodfare vouchers
4. Lozenges
5. Chuan Bei Pi Pa Gao

We intend to give out between 100 to 110 kits to cleaners in Serangoon and Paya Lebar.

This is a campaign in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The outbreak has indeed affected the general public at large as well as the economy of Singapore. Despite the growing fear, we are also very happy and motivated to see that a lot of non-profit initiatives have taken place to support people of Singapore, especially the front line groups like the health care workers, cleaners who help to keep the hygiene of the public areas, as well as some self-initiated individual effort to distribute mask, food, etc. to the public in need.

Inspired by the selfless act, we asked ourselves what can we do to help in this situation; and recently few of us came to notice that the cleaners are now required to put in extra effort as the organizations increase the frequency of cleaning as well as disinfecting of premises especially public places like food centers, bus interchange, etc. And we know very well that they are of the lower income group of workers and chances are, most of them are just earning enough to make ends meet and there will be very little they will be able to do to increase their physical fitness and immune system to meet the demands of their jobs. Thus, we came the conclusion that we want to help them maintain their well being and physical fitness to carry on with their jobs.

What we are going to do

Our idea is to distribute health kits to cleaners of the targeted food centers, which includes those who carry out the cleaning at food center, toilet facilities as well as the foreign workers who clear the trashes around the food center. The distribution will be available to all of these categories, regardless of sex, age, and nationality.

We plan to start with Serangoon and Paya Lebar, and are collaborating with Paya Lebar CCC and Payar Lebar Kovan CC CCMC to get their advice, the details of the cleaners’ demographic, as well as the resources to help to accomplish this campaign.

1. Who is Ray of Hope?

We’re a registered charity and member of National Council of Social Services. We’re also one of the 4 crowdfunding platforms in Singapore that sign up to the Code of Best Practice with the Charity Commissioner. 

2. Where does my donation go?

100% of your donation goes to campaigns listed on Ray of Hope. We do not take a commission from your donation, in fact we go one step further and cover 3rd party credit card charges that other crowdfunding platforms deduct from campaigns.

3. How is Ray of Hope’s overheads covered?

We are funded by our board of directors, The Majurity Trust and other generous philanthropist so that 100% of your donations goes to the campaigns.

4. How would I know if the funds are used for it’s intended purpose?

Transparency and accountability to donors is of upmost importance to us at Ray of Hope. Before any disbursements of funds, proper documentation must be presented by the campaign owners to show that the funds were used for it’s intended purpose. Donors will get regular updates on the campaign page and their emails on how the funds were used.

5. What if the campaign raised more than the target amount?

Campaigns on Ray of Hope are designed to close once the target amount is hit. However, there are instances when a donor donates more than the remaining amount, the donation will still go through.

For example – A campaign that is currently at $2000 has a target of $2100. The remaining amount is $100. A donor can donate more than $100 to fully close the campaign. However, another donor will not be able to donate because the campaign has already met the target.

In the event where there are excess funds, Ray of Hope will work with campaign owners to fully utilise the funds for it’s intended purpose.
