Ray of Hope is crowdfunding for children with special needs who come from low-income families, to attend a 3-day workshop during the June holidays. Holiday Workshop: GANGWAY 2021
While air travel is restricted in this season, adventures are still boundless! We chose āGangwayā to be the theme for this workshop, emphasizing the journey to an adventure. This workshop incorporates psychological techniques like narrative therapy, psychodrama, rhythm and movement, to promote self-awareness, confidence-building, social skills, emotion regulation and perseverance in special needs children. By doing so, we also hope to dispel myths on what children with special needs can and cannot do. We will be collaborating with Raffles Runway – a fashion design club from Raffles Junior College – to design and create outfits for the children. Children will go through a journey of designing their own outfits to represent themselves, exploring how to express and control different emotions, and inviting members of their social circle to be part of the audience. Children will also be engaged in building the next gangway of their lives, where they discuss goals and possible challenges that may arise. The workshop culminates in a gangway showcase and an afternoon tea.Ā
In addition to Raffles Runway, we will also be engaging the help of hairstylists to dress the children up, and photographers and videographers to commemorate the event. Catered food, red carpet, and a photo wall are some of the items weāll be getting to enhance the whole Gangway experience.
About The Therapy Room
The Therapy Room (TTR) is a psychology centre that incorporates different psychological techniques to help our clients reach their maximum potential and enhance their well-being. Our clients span from the young ones with learning disabilities and special needs like autism and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, to adults with depression, anxiety, and personality disorders.Ā
Together as a team, we have conducted various workshops and talks at organizations and schools. In addition, Camp Global is a trademarked program of The Therapy Room which is held biannually. It is a 3-day workshop for young children and it aims to cultivate mindfulness, stress management and resilience, social skills, and goal-setting using psychotherapeutic techniques in a lighthearted and enjoyable setting. Due to a rise in demand, The Therapy Room would be organizing a separate 3-day workshop exclusive to children with special needs who come from low-income families.Ā
