After the passing of her 17-year-old son, the three-room flat where Mdm Rahimah lived with her husband now has been noticeably quieter. On the 26th of July, Mdm Rahimah’s son, Ridwan, was playing basketball with a friend at the court when the basketball backboard structure fell on him. He subsequently died from his injuries.

Ray of Hope is raising S$2,000 (S$400 x 5 months) to defray the family’s groceries expenses. Please give hope to Mdm Rahimah and her family while she tries her best to remain strong during this very difficult period in her life.

63-years-old Mdm Rahimah works the night shift as a pump attendant, earning a basic pay of approximately $1,100 every month. Her 84-year-old husband works as a hawker at a food centre selling noodles for a living. Mdm Rahimah shared that business has not been so good for the family since the beginning of covid-19. Before the influx of covid, his stall was heavily dependent on the working or shopping crowds to earn a profit. 

With her husband’s old age catching up, Mdm Rahimah is also worried about her husband’s health. Her husband suffers from asthma and cataracts. 

On the 26th of July 2021, Mdm Rahimah’s son, Ridwan, passed on due to a tragic mishap that happened while he was playing basketball at a nearby court. Ridwan was playing basketball with a friend at the court when the basketball backboard structure fell on him. He subsequently died from his injuries.

“Since he left us, things have been quiet at home. Sometimes, I would ask his friends to come over to fill the empty void in the house. We have said our prayers and I’m sure he is in a better place now,” shared Mdm Rahimah.

Since the passing of her son, Mdm Rahimah has been working tirelessly to continue supporting the couple. She works six days a week as a way to distract herself from the painful loss and to continue earning a livelihood.
