In 2019, 14.4% of Singapore’s population of 3.9 million people was aged 65 years or older and, by 2030, this figure is expected to rise to 25%, because of rising life expectancy and lower fertility rates. Among our frail and isolated seniors, eldercare service providers usually rely on befriending services and regular check-ins to access seniors. In the first 8 months of 2021, Singapore Casket held 36 funerals for seniors who died alone at home.
SG Assist is currently working with various Senior Activity Centres to install home monitoring devices, such as SOS button, motion sensor (toilet, bedroom) and other essential IoT devices to give seniors the confidence to age in their own home. Other than the devices, care agents –who are seniors and PWDs as well– will provide tele-befriending and check-ins to these seniors on weekly basis. When an alarm goes off, a care agent will verify the situation for false alarm situation, or escalate the case to 995 for a possible emergency. We hope to fundraise to continue to provide these devices and care agent services to every senior in our community.
Stage 1 – 50 isolated senior’s home
Stage 2 – 50 isolated senior’s home
Stage 3 – 100 isolated senior’s home
SG Assist will provide and install the IoT devices (SOS button, alarm buzzle, motion sensor etc.) in the homes of isolated, low-income seniors. We will collaborate with charity organizations to hire Care Agents from the low-income community, so that they can provide isolated seniors with weekly befriending calls and check-ins to ensure their safety with 24/7 ready support.
For a small sum of $25 per month or $300 per year, you will co-fund the cost of providing part-time employment for a Care Agent, who is a senior above 60 years old and/or a person-with-disability (PWD) or a chronically unemployed individual.
We are targeting approximately 50 isolated seniors living in aging estates who have been identified by our charity partners.
