Ray of Hope is raising $3,492 ($582 x 6 months) to support Zhaoguang and his family for the next 6 months. The funds will help with his family’s living expenses and his daughter’s school fees as he continues with treatment.

Zhaoguang is from the Jiangsu province of China and is married with two children, aged 16 and 24. The 48 year-old was his family’s sole breadwinner, working as a supervisor in construction. He earned between $2,500 to $3,000 a month, and would remit the bulk of his salary to his family for their living expenses, keeping around $500 for himself.

Zhaoguang fell into a 2m deep canal while clearing rubbish at the worksite after a day’s work. He broke his right foot, which required surgery.

Zhaoguang underwent the procedure on 7 March 2022 and was issued 9 months of medical leave that ends on 27 November 2022. However, his right foot did not heal well even after surgery and he still walks with a painful limp. He also did not receive his MC wages.

Since he stopped work early this year, Zhaoguang has been unable to send remittances home to support his family. Zhaoguang’s wife and elder son recently started working as a factory worker and driver respectively. However, their employment has been unstable due to the Covid-19 situation in China. Zhaoguang is under tremendous pressure and hopes to recover soon in order to return to work.

Zhaoguang currently attends weekly TCM treatment and physiotherapy sessions offered by an NGO.
