Community activities for volunteers

Breakdown of cost of donation

EG forecasts to receive up to 2,500 requests for laptops in 2023. The requests come from vulnerable and/or underserved communities such as low-income family members, single mothers, migrant workers, ex-offenders, and women, often single mothers from vulnerable communities who would like to upskill.

The cost of refurbishing a laptop at EG is S$250. In comparison, refurbished laptops in the open market (of similar specs) cost anywhere from $450 to $800. This is money that especially low-income families cannot afford at regular times, and made even more inaccessible due to the ever-rising inflation in Singapore. In the current times, such vulnerable and underserved communities will prioritise bread-and-butter issues and neglect upskilling and education opportunities. However, this means that they will, especially affected kids, will fall behind in their education as their peers continue to access education, home-based learning, and project work in school.

We aim to raise $10,000 through this 3-month campaign, which will go towards purchasing spare parts, and accessories and upgrading the software for some of the older laptops we receive. This will allow EG to support 40 beneficiaries with 40 laptops.

As a ‘charity for charities’, EG serves over 200 social service agencies in Singapore. We support persons with disabilities (PWDs), low-income families, and other disadvantaged groups.
