The Struggle

Madam Rama** is a widowed mother of 6 who was living in Malaysia. The 53-year-old moved back to Singapore with her son, Rajan**, when her husband passed away. She has been struggling to pay for his school fees as he is a Malaysian citizen and does not qualify for any subsidies. Madam Rama works on an ad-hoc basis as a cleaner for hotel banquets, but she is unable to work consistently due to her poor health: she suffers from fibroids, varicose veins and swelling legs. One of her daughters works in Singapore and supports all 6 other members of the family with what little she can.

Give Hope – Help Needed

As Rajan is a Malaysian citizen, his school fees aren’t covered by any subsidies, and as such he has accumulated over $1,900 in MOE debt for his fees. He is currently in Secondary 4 and will be sitting for his N’Levels this year, but only if he can pay the fees of $1,085 by the 30th of April. Rajan is a smart young man who wants to have the opportunity to do well in school and his future in order to take care of his mother and 5 sisters.

Financial Breakdown

Ray of Hope is raising $3,049 for Madam Rama and Rajan to clear his Education arrears ($1,964) and pay for his N’Level Fees ($1,085) to allow him to sit for his exams at the end of this year. Both sums will be paid directly to MOE.
