The Legacy of Mr. Lim Doa Hin
The late Mr. Lim was born in China and travelled to Singapore after World War II. In spite of unfavourable conditions, he rose to become a successful and reputable businessman. Mr. Lim believed in higher education as a means to changing the financial circumstances of a family in need. The Estate of Lim Doa Hin honours this legacy and currently funds study grants and endowed scholarships for undergraduates at the Singapore Institute of Technology and at Republic Polytechnic.

In line with the value that the late Mr. Lim placed on education, TMT proposes a strategic collaboration to support the educational needs of financially disadvantaged children and youths. In particular, those who have no other means of financial support and those who may not have opportunities in the public education system. The Lim Doa Hin Education Fund will complement institution-specific scholarships and bursaries and complement key national initiatives in the school support ecosystem, such asthe Ministry of Education’s Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) and Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (STSPMF).

The Education Fund will increase public awareness of Mr. Lim Doa Hin’s charitable legacy to the community; supporting education needs will ensure better outcomes for the future of disadvantaged children and youths who would otherwise be unable to continue their education.

Eligibility for the Lim Doa Hin Education Fund
In line with the wishes of the Estate:
• To reach out to the most disadvantaged children and youths, education expenses may include vocational training and training in marketable skills.
• Beneficiaries should be Singaporean citizens at the time of application.
• Permanent Residents who have spent their formative years in Singapore may be considered in exceptional cases.

Fund Disbursement
• The funds can only be used for educational needs and expenses related to education and training, as defined by the Lim Doa Hin Education Fund.

Impact Reporting
• The Estate will receive a mid-term social impact report at the end of September 2021 followed by a full report at the closing of the Lim Doa Hin Education Fund.
