What happened to Liyuan?
After experiencing a traumatic event two years ago, Liyuan has finally attained a level of stability. Following a series of family crises, including his mother’s dementia and health issues, the family unit fragmented. Liyuan and his sister grapple with schizophrenia, and his mother needs long-term care. Overcoming severe suicidal inclinations, Liyuan spent three months in the Institute of Mental Health before transitioning to a shelter in February 2022.
Despite being deemed unfit for work due to health challenges, he diligently works to regain control over his life, receiving support from his social worker. In December 2023, Liyuan successfully transitioned to stable rental housing. He is now concentrating on developing skills for independent living and sustaining stable mental health.
How can you help?
In support of his journey towards independent living, we seek a $250 monthly contribution for four months to aid him in meeting day-to-day living needs as he collaborates with social workers to manage finances and develop advanced life skills.
While still unsuitable for employment, Liyuan persists in adapting to a self-reliant lifestyle. He also remains devoted to caring for his ailing mother.
During our interview, Liyuan earnestly emphasizes the specific food and miscellaneous items he intends to purchase for his mother. He earnestly expresses, “Help me be a filial son. Even though our family is facing tough times, I still want my mother to know that I really care about her.”
* Liyuan is receiving social assistance. His first Campaign with Ray of Hope can be found here.
