On November 1st, 2023, a routine task turned tragic for Firoz. While working high atop a new apartment building, A tangled wire rope caused him to fall 1.8 meters, leaving him with a painful back injury. Firoz was issued 5 months of medical leave, with only partial MC wages paid to him.Â
This injury not only caused immense physical pain but also jeopardised his ability to work and support his family back home. Doctors diagnosed Firoz with a spinal injury, including a slight loss of the natural curve in his lower back (lordosis) and bulging discs. This injury takes away Firoz’s ability to carry heavy loads without severe pain and risk of further injury to his spine. Once a strong provider for his family, Firoz is now unable to work and faces a long road to recovery.Â
Your donations can help a father rise again
Ray of Hope is raising $3,900 to help cover Firoz’s living expenses for the next six months. This will allow him to focus on his recovery as his MOM assessment concludes. The funds raised will be transferred to the worker directly.
Your gift will ease his financial burden and allow him peace of mind as he focuses on recovery, anchored on his hope of being the dependable provider to his children that he longs to be.
Beyond The Physical Pain
After arriving in Singapore in 2020, 29-year-old Firoz was employed as a General Worker in Construction, earning approximately $1,170 a month. He remitted the bulk of his salary home, leaving only a small amount for himself.
Firoz’s pain goes beyond the physical, and the weight of his responsibility extends beyond his own family. Back in Bangladesh, Firoz is the sole provider for his wife, 2-year-old daughter, and his 2 school-going siblings.
Separated from his loved ones for years, Firoz yearns to reunite with his family after his case concludes. Firoz told the caseworkers, “I came to Singapore for work when my wife was pregnant. I miss them terribly. They are everything to me.”Â
To date, Firoz still relies on strong painkillers to manage the pain in his lower back, especially with prolonged sitting and heavy lifting. Adding to his stress, he hasn’t received any updates on his compensation, leaving him in a state of financial uncertainty and great distress as he is unable to provide for the family he deeply loves.Â
Driven by his love for his family, Firoz throws himself into recovery. He attends physiotherapy sessions four times a week, determined to regain his health and return to work as the provider his family relies on.
