Li Qin’s Story
Li Qin, a mother of three, has been fighting a battle with depression that has left her unable to work until February 2025. Despite her struggles, she remains determined to recover and reunite with her two sons, who currently live in a Children’s Home and foster care. Li Qin’s unwavering love for her family and her commitment to their well-being testify to her strength and resilience.
I Hsien’s Challenges
As the sole breadwinner, I Hsien works tirelessly as a food delivery rider, putting in 12-hour shifts, seven days a week. However, his income has recently been affected by the deteriorating condition of his bicycles, which are in dire need of repair.
With faulty brakes, bare wheels, and a loose handlebar, his safety is at risk every day he goes to work. Despite these challenges, he remains dedicated to providing for his family.
A Family Apart
Li Qin’s two sons, aged 12 and 10, are currently only authorised to visit on Saturdays and are expected to be discharged back into Li Qin’s care in 2028 – pending the family’s stabilisation. With the family’s reunification at stake, Li Qin pours all her attention into caring for her 4-year-old daughter, Aisha. She dreams of the time when the family can be united once again.
As the family’s breadwinner, I Hsien is constantly faced with the tough decision between working for his family’s survival and taking some time off to see his sons when they visit. As a food delivery rider, every hour he spends with his sons means an hour of lost income.Â
Empowering a Family in NeedÂ
Our goal is to empower I Hsien to continue working and providing for his family while also giving him the opportunity to spend precious time with his sons on Saturdays. By raising funds for bicycle repairs, a rainy day fund, and pull-up pants for their daughter, we aim to alleviate the family’s financial burden and provide them with the support they need during this challenging time.
Ray of Hope aims to fundraise $1,491.59 to support the family in finding financial stability. The funds raised will be allocated as follows:
$300 (one-time) for necessary work expenses, such as repairing I Hsien’s bicycles, ensuring his safety and ability to continue working
$860 as a rainy day fund to cover monthly lost income ($143.30) for six months when I Hsien needs to take a day off due to illness or other emergencies and to spend some time with his sons on SaturdaysÂ
$331.59 for a six-month supply of pull-up pants for Aisha, providing the family with more breathing room to budget for essential expenses like food
A Plea for Understanding and SupportÂ
“There are so many things going on; it’s hard to express the pressure I am under.”Â
Li Qin’s words paint a picture of her family’s immense daily challenges. Yet, even in the face of adversity, she remains motivated to recover from her depression and return to work to support her loved ones.Â
By contributing to this campaign, you can make a tangible difference in the lives of Li Qin, I Hsien, and their three children. Your donation, no matter the size, will help keep this family together and provide them with the support they need to overcome their current challenges.Â
In 2021, Ray of Hope supported the family’s living expenses for four months while they renewed their SSO assistance, after her husband lost his full-time job during the COVID-19 Pandemic. We are once again asking for your generosity to support the family as their current SSO support ends in October, pending renewal.
