Liyana is a young mother of two, just 24 years old, navigating a path that few could imagine. Her days are filled with caring for her 5-year-old son and her 8-month-old baby girl, a task made more challenging by the hurdles life has thrown her way.
For three years, Liyana was in a relationship that turned turbulent. Domestic violence became part of her reality, and when she discovered she was pregnant again, her partner walked away, refusing to acknowledge their child. With no choice but to leave her full-time job to care for her children, Liyana found herself at a crossroads.
But giving up was never an option for her.
Today, Liyana is rebuilding her life, determined to create a better future for her children. Things at home have stabilised, and she’s been actively seeking employment since October 2024. With each interview she attends, she’s one step closer to regaining her financial independence.
Liyana lives in a small flat with her mother, sister, and her two little ones. Her mother, unable to work due to health reasons, and her younger sister, currently studying at ITE, depend on her in many ways. The family’s financial strain is particularly felt in the care of Liyana’s youngest. Milk and diapers alone cost close to $350 a month—an amount that seems insurmountable when there’s barely enough for basic groceries.
In addition to financial struggles, the family is working to improve their living conditions. Having faced her own challenges in the past, Liyana’s mother turned to hoarding as a coping mechanism. Now that life at home has stabilised, she has made significant progress in decluttering their flat. However, there is still much work to be done to improve ventilation and create more usable space. Adding a fresh coat of paint would brighten their home, making it a more welcoming and comfortable environment for the entire family.
That’s where you come in.
We’re raising $6,211.70 to provide Liyana and her family with six months of essential living support and a one-time provision for their house painting needs. This breaks down to:
– Groceries and sundries: $650 per month
– Milk and diapers for her baby girl: $350 per month
– Paint: $102 for a 5L tin
– Paint tools (including paint rollers, brushes, and trays): $109.70
Your contributions won’t just meet the family’s basic needs—it will also help transform their living environment into a healthier, more uplifting space. A brighter and more organized home can greatly improve their mental well-being, giving Liyana and her family the emotional strength they need to face life’s challenges.
This support will give Liyana and her family a much-needed breather, helping to put food on the table, create a more positive living space, and meet their basic needs. It’s a chance for Liyana to focus on her job search, build up her savings, and take meaningful steps toward breaking the cycle of dependence on community support.
“My kids and my sister keep me going,” Liyana shared when asked how she stays so resolute in the face of her challenges. “I hope my children can live a better life than I currently do.”
Every cent, as Liyana puts it, truly can make a difference. Your contribution could be the bridge this family needs to move toward a brighter, more stable future. Together, let’s help Liyana regain her footing and take the first steps toward independence.
