Liyana lives in a small flat with her mother, sister, and her two little ones. Her mother, unable to work due to health reasons, and her younger sister, currently studying at ITE, depend on her in many ways. The family’s financial strain is particularly felt in the care of Liyana’s youngest. Milk and diapers alone cost close to $350 a month—an amount that seems insurmountable when there’s barely enough for basic groceries.

In addition to financial struggles, the family is working to improve their living conditions. Having faced her own challenges in the past, Liyana’s mother turned to hoarding as a coping mechanism. Now that life at home has stabilised, she has made significant progress in decluttering their flat. However, there is still much work to be done to improve ventilation and create more usable space.
