About the Fund:
This fund was established in 2023 in loving memory of Janet Ng Lin Seong (1944–2023) to honour her lifelong dedication to supporting children and youth in their education.
As we approach the second anniversary of her passing, we moved by the impact of the fund created in her name. Since its inception in March 2023, with your generous contributions, Ray of Hope has disbursed $29,010 directly to 66 students, helping them clear school arrears and secure their future.
We are once again raising funds in 2025. Your support continues to keep her legacy alive, empowering young minds through education.
Thank you for being a part of this journey.
The children you’ve supported:
Mydin and Irfana Mydin and Irfana received their final reminders from MOE and were on the verge of being expelled from school on 26 September 2024. During their time of need, their campaign only had enough funds to keep on of them in school. Fortunately, we were able to top up $2000 to their campaign to help keep both children in school.
Amir Amir’s family has fully settled his outstanding school fees of $5,372 with MOE. This means that in 2025, he can return to school, sit for his O-levels, and continue working towards his goal of supporting his younger siblings.
Khalid Since losing her husband in 2016, Mariam has been juggling two jobs to provide for her family. Despite her determination, their PR status has posed significant challenges, from higher school fees to limited access to financial aid. Her son, Khalid, was expelled from school due to unpaid fees. Thanks to your kindness, we have successfully covered $4,285 of his arrears, and he will soon be returning to school.
Muzzamil With the $3045 in arrears covered by your generosity, Muzammil can now resume his education and continue pursuing his passion for cybersecurity. After months of uncertainty, he finally has the chance to focus on his studies without the worry of financial barriers holding him back.
How will the funds help?
The fund will provide additional resources to students residing in Singapore from disadvantaged backgrounds. This ensures equal access to education and the opportunity to succeed by circumventing some of the financial burdens low-income students face via:
Financial Support: Reducing the financial burden on caregivers by providing funds to students to cover the cost of education-related expenses.
Early Intervention support: Early intervention programs aimed at identifying and addressing learning difficulties can help prevent students from falling behind and provide them with the support they need.
By providing support to these students, we can help ensure that they have the resources they need to pursue their educational goals and build a brighter future for themselves and their families.
Thank you for standing with these students. Your generosity is a gift that lasts far beyond the classroom.
A message from Janet’s Children:
As the eldest of six siblings, our mother tragically lost her parents at a young age and took on caring for her siblings. She selflessly devoted her life to education, working as a teacher in Singapore and later helping to set up and run a school (Permai Plus) in Indonesia after retirement.
Mom was passionate about education and youth, and her values of humility, kindness, and generosity shone through. She was a motherly figure to many and inspired countless students, colleagues and friends with her dedication and unwavering commitment to helping others in need.
With this fund, we aim to continue her spirit of giving back to the community and supporting education and youth initiatives that align with her values.
We invite you to join us in honouring our mother’s life and positively impacting the world she cared so deeply for. Together, we can carry on her legacy of kindness, generosity, and commitment to education and youth and make a difference in the lives of those in need.
