A Family Hoping for Stability
Every morning, Norazikin prepares her three children for school. Rakan is 11, Razan is 9, and Rafan is 7. Their mornings revolve around homework reminders, school bags, and quick decisions about what to bring for the day. But behind these everyday routines is a family quietly navigating layers of uncertainty most of us never have to face.
Norazikin married her husband, Nidal, in 2013, hoping to build a stable life together. Today, she is raising their children largely on her own. Nidal, a Palestinian, is currently living in Malaysia following the rejection of his Long-Term Visit Pass application. While he waits for the outcome of his new LTVP and visa application, the family remains separated.
Unable to be physically present or contribute financially, Nidal can only offer support from afar. His absence means there is no second income, no shared caregiving, and little room for error when unexpected expenses arise. Norazikin carries the full weight of caregiving alone.
“My children are my strength and my purpose,” she shares. It is a belief she returns to every day.
Compounding Health and Financial Strain
Norazikin’s own journey has never been straightforward. Born in Singapore to a Malaysian PR mother and a father who was incarcerated, she grew up stateless before eventually obtaining Singapore Permanent Residency. In November 2025, she submitted her citizenship application, which remains pending. Despite these uncertainties, she continues working steadily to provide for her children and maintain a sense of normalcy at home.
Since July 2025, Norazikin has been coping with mobility issues caused by a left knee condition. She walks with a limpand requires ongoing medical treatment, including injections and the possibility of knee replacement surgery. Yet she delayed medical follow-ups so she could continue working and ensure her family had a consistent source of income. With no financial buffer to fall back on, her health has often had to take a back seat so her children’s needs can come first.
All three children are on student passes and attend school and student care regularly. They have been granted concessionary PR school fees for 2026 and are described as well-behaved, focused, and eager to learn. They receive ongoing monitoring and support and require supplementary academic guidance to help them stay on track. Keeping them in school provides not just education, but the stability they rely on to continue progressing.
What keeps this family going is hope.
Hope that Nidal will be allowed to return to Singapore, so the family can be together again.
Hope that Norazikin’s health will stabilise, allowing her to care for her children without constant pain.
And most importantly, hope that their children can remain in school and continue learning without disruption.
Why Timely Support Matters Now
Ray of Hope is raising $31,809.72* to help clear the children’s outstanding school fee arrears and support the family’s medical expenses.
Despite careful budgeting, Norazikin is struggling to cope with her children’s outstanding school fee arrears, which total $28,826.72. To stretch her limited resources, she prepares simple meals, often hotdog sandwiches, so her children can bring food to school, as daily allowances are not possible. There is little room left for emergencies.
In December 2025, the children were already at risk of being prevented from attending school due to unpaid fees. Their social worker was able to intervene at the time, but such arrangements may not be possible again. Without timely financial support, the children face a risk of educational disruption.
Funds raised will be used to:
- Clear the children’s outstanding school fee arrears ($28,826.72)
- 2)Support outstanding medical expenses incurred by Nidal ($2,420.55)
“I am determined to overcome every obstacle to give all three of my children an education, stability, and a future brighter than my past,” Norazikin says. “I am committed to building a better life for my family, and together with my husband, I will create a secure and hopeful future for us all.”
With your support, the children can continue their education, and the family can have some stability during a challenging period.
