As I run straight into turning 24, I would like to use my day of celebration to shine the light on others, and back on you. We often underestimate our ability to make a difference. Sometimes we get caught up in our own lives, and that is perfectly fine.

But there are ways to show up for our neighbours and fellow humans as they face their struggles. Even donating the price of a cup of coffee can make a real difference when many people come together.

This year, I pledge my birthday funds towards Ray of Hope’s Mental Health Hope Circle.

The Mental Health Hope Circle is a pooled fund that provides last mile support for individuals who are struggling with their mental health and facing financial barriers to care. It helps to cover urgent needs such as counselling sessions, psychiatric consultations, medication, and related treatment costs, especially for those who may not qualify for existing schemes or are waiting for longer term support. Sometimes a campaign falls slightly short, or someone needs help before other assistance can kick in. This fund steps in during those gaps, so that someone does not have to delay seeking help simply because they cannot afford it.

Ray of Hope is Singapore’s only crowdfunding charity serving emerging and unmet needs. Ray of Hope is an Institution of a Public Character (IPC), and donations above $50 are eligible for tax deductions of up to 2.5 times the qualifying donation amount.

About Ray of Hope

Ray of Hope serves anyone who works, studies or lives in Singapore regardless of nationality and citizenship status:

🟠 Primary Group: Singaporeans from low-income families facing sudden hardship such as illness, injury, sudden unemployment, or caregiving responsibilities.

🟠 Extended Support: Vulnerable groups living within our community who face unique barriers to traditional aid, such as migrant brothers, stateless individuals, and foreign spouses or children in crisis.

🟠 Crowdfunding: Campaigns that provide financial assistance to families and individuals in crisis, as well as community-based campaigns aligned with emerging and unmet needs.

🟠 Casework: Every campaign, whether for an individual or a community initiative, is verified by our case or partnerships team to ensure accountability and dignity at every stage.

🟠 Community Building: Working alongside corporates, NGOs, ground-up groups, and government agencies to mobilise resources, co-design initiatives, and extend help to groups excluded from conventional support. These partnerships allow us to amplify impact and address gaps more holistically.

Funds raised through this campaign will be matched by Tote Board’s Enhanced Fundraising Scheme (EFR), amplifying the impact of your contribution. The matched funds enable Ray of Hope to continue verifying and supporting cases, ensuring that every campaign on our platform is genuine and that donations reach those who need them most.

Ray of Hope does not replace existing aid. Instead, we step in to bridge urgent gaps where conventional systems may fall short. We work closely with social service agencies and government partners so our efforts complement existing schemes.
