Mdm Siti is a mother of six children, four of whom have special needs. Her days revolve around caring for them, from helping them bathe and get dressed to guiding them through their daily routines and keeping them safe.

Her husband is the family’s sole breadwinner, earning about $1,700 a month to support their household of eight. One of their sons takes on ad hoc jobs when he can, while helping to care for his siblings whenever Mdm Siti needs support. These responsibilities make it difficult for him to commit to stable full-time work.

A chance to start again

The family previously received support through a Ray of Hope campaign, which helped them manage their living expenses and settle an outstanding electricity bill for Mdm Siti’s hawker stall. 

Speaking about the support they received, Mdm Siti shared, “I would like to say my thanks to the donors and also Ray of Hope. This has helped me to pay debts and outstanding SP bills. I am grateful and wish the best for the team from Ray of Hope. God bless all.”

With the bill paid, she was able to reopen the stall and earn an income again. For Mdm Siti, returning to work meant being able to contribute to the household while continuing to care for her children.

For a while, the family began to regain some stability.

An Unexpected Setback

Just as the family was regaining some stability, Mdm Siti suffered a fall and sustained a serious back injury. She continues to experience severe pain and difficulty moving, making it challenging for her to operate her hawker stall.

The family is now relying solely on her husband’s modest salary of $1700 to cover the needs of eight people. Despite her injury, she remains responsible for her 4 children with special needs, who require close supervision and help with essential routines.

She is currently undergoing medical treatment and hopes to recover so she can reopen her hawker stall. “I hope I can recover fast so I can open my stall and make money.”

What We’re Raising Funds For

We are raising $3,054 to provide the family with two months of grocery support, at $1,500 per month, while Mdm Siti focuses on her recovery.

This support will help ensure that the family has enough food and essential groceries while Mdm Siti recovers and their household income remains reduced. It will also ease some of the pressure she faces as she manages her injury and continues caring for her children.

Once she is well enough to reopen her hawker stall, the additional income will help the family manage their household expenses and regain greater financial stability.
