Background
Vevikkannan experienced initial symptoms of headache and fever. On 8 July 2019, these symptoms took a turn for the worse and he experienced seizures, with his right hand writhing and right side of face pulled up.
He was then admitted to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and stayed in the Intensive Care Unit till 16 July 2019. He was subsequently transferred to the National University Hospital Singapore (NUH) and has been receiving treatment at NUH until the present.
He was treated for New-Onset Refractory Status Epilepticus (NORSE) with a presumptive autoimmune etiology. Other issues during his admission in NUH include infectious complications (MDR Klebsiella pneumoniae, strep mitis and CONS bacteremia) and cardiac arrest.
Currently, he is still warded at NUH and is making a recovery. However, the doctors have not confirmed the diagnosis and are still putting him through various tests and treatments.
Help Needed – Give Hope
As a result of receiving intensive medical treatment for over 1.5 months, Vevikkannan has raked up significant medical bills. As of 5 September 2019, the total medical bill is $95,239.77 (after government subsidies). He has also been unable to work as a result of his hospitalisation.
Pending approval of his insurance plan and medisave, the out-of-pocket cost still amounts to over $30,000. This is a significant amount and any assistance will go a long way.
Ray of Hope would like to raise $35,000 to help Vevikkannan with his medical bills. 100% of your donation will be directed to his campaign, Ray of Hope does not take a cut from the proceeds.
*This is a private campaign started by Vevikkannan’s friend. Investigations are pending to whether he will be getting compensation for his condition. In the event that he does receive compensation, the family will like to donate the funds to other campaigns listed on Ray of Hope.
Ray of Hope will be administering the funds and paying the hospital directly.
