  Life took an unexpected turn when Varsha contracted COVID with severe symptoms in early 2024. The illness forced her to take significant time off work, and just as she was ready to return, a family emergency required her to travel to India with her mother. These personal struggles impacted her work performance, leading her employer to extend her probation period and change her working hours without the option for negotiation.

Faced with the impossible choice between her job and caring for her child, Varsha made the difficult decision to quit. She believed she would find new employment quickly, but the journey has been more challenging than anticipated.

A Dream of Helping Others

Despite the setbacks, Varsha remains determined to stay in the healthcare field and has found a new calling as a phlebotomist. She is eager to enroll in a certification course that will enable her to work in hospitals or clinics, but the financial barriers are significant. The training provider does not accept Skillsfuture credits or instalment payments, making it difficult for Varsha to pursue her dream while relying on public assistance to meet her and her daughter’s daily needs.
