What happened to Aidil?
A week before his wedding, Aidil met with a road traffic accident that cost him his leg and livelihood. On 1 July 2013, a tipper truck carrying sand ran over him, crushing his left leg and pelvis. Since then, Aidil has had eight operations, including an above knee amputation, and has a metal rod inserted in his right leg to help it heal.
This accident left him dependent on a wheelchair, preventing him from enjoying the simple pleasures of life, like running with his children in the park, taking spontaneous walks with his wife, or even pursuing his passion for sports, which used to be a significant part of his identity. As a wheelchair user the past 9 years, he continues to mourn the loss of part of his identity.
“My children are growing up well but I’m not able to run around and play with them like other dads,” shared Aidil.
How can you help?
Aidil has not made new prosthetics for years, because of the prohibitively high costs involved. This campaign aims to raise $27,000 to support Aidil in obtaining a prosthetic that will go a long way in giving him back his independence, mobility, and allow him to be the active, engaged father he wants to be.
Funds raised will be directly paid to the prosthetics company.

Previously a dispatch rider, Aidil now works as a part-time bus coordinator, earning $800 a month, while his wife is a HR manager, contributing $2,300 to the family’s finances. With three young children and his ailing mother-in-law to support, Aidil’s life became a juggling act of responsibilities and financial constraints. As they manage to meet their daily living expenses, Aidil continually experiences a sense of helplessness and a desire for something more, not just for himself but for his family. He explained that his mother-in-law suffered suffers from a stroke and has since required increased care. That, coupled with 3 active children that he yearns to keep up with, leaves him acutely frustrated with the limitations of being in a wheelchair.
“I used to be a very sporty person before the accident. And I still try to be – I love sports. I love keeping myself fit,” says Aidil.
Aidil’s passion for sports, particularly as the manager of a wheelchair rugby association, revealed the potential within him. Here, he sees himself actively contributing and making a difference, to others who have gone through similar losses. The gift of a well-fitted prosthetic limb could potentially make a vast difference to his health, open doors to better employment opportunities and a reaffirmed self-identity.
