What happened to Ali?
On 9 June 2021, Ali was moving metal formwork with a co-worker when he fell from a height of 2 meters. He landed on his right side, with his face hitting the ground so hard that he lost consciousness. The accident resulted in an interstitial delamination tear of the supraspinatus on his right shoulder tendon with the superior labrum destroyed. He also sustained a head injury and 90% hearing loss in his right ear. The doctors have advised that Ali would likely develop post-traumatic osteoarthritis on his right shoulder. He is expected to suffer from permanent disabilities, requiring physiotherapy for the rest of his life.
For nine months, even though the company clinic saw to his injured arm, Ali’s hearing loss was left untreated. In March 2022 , when the pains in his arm did not improve, the clinic doctor referred him to a hospital for further treatment. At the hospital, Ali’s condition was reviewed and he was given a CT scan that revealed blood clots in his brain. Eventually, Ali underwent a surgery to remove the blood clots. He is presently still visiting the hospital 2-4 times a month for follow-up and physiotherapy sessions. It was only in December 2022, following a complaint filed with MOM that Ali was given the green light by his employer to see a doctor for his hearing loss.
