Help Remove the Barrier to Alvina and Daniel’s Education
A Family Holding On Against the Odds
For the past six months, Alvina and Daniel have been out of school—not by choice, but because their family cannot afford the fees required for them to return.
In a large family of nine, including seven children (two of whom are adopted and hold non-citizen status), every dollar is stretched thin. Their father earns a living as a private hire driver, and their mother recently returned to work in March 2026. Despite their parents’ best efforts, the family’s income remains stretched, making it increasingly difficult to keep up with daily expenses, let alone school fees.
Though Alvina and Daniel are not Singapore citizens due to their adoption status, they have grown up and studied here. They consider the city-state their only home and the heart of their community. Currently residing here on two-year visit passes, they are working toward securing permanent residency.
Interrupted Journeys
Alvina was once thriving in secondary school, staying on top of her studies and building her aspirations. Today, she waits at home, unable to return until the outstanding debt is cleared.
Daniel’s journey has also been disrupted. After briefly leaving school to care for his grandmother in Sabah, he is now ready to return, but cannot be enrolled due to the same financial barrier.
Both children have been out of school for six months. Each passing day widens the gap between them and their peers, making it harder to catch up academically and socially.
Your Support to Restore Their Education
The family and their social worker are proactively engaging with other social service agencies to secure support for future school fees. However, the immediate debt remains.
Ray of Hope is raising $14,971.36* to clear the outstanding school fees and help Alvina and Daniel return to the classroom. Your support will go directly toward removing the barrier currently halting their education.
With your help, they can:
- Return to a structured learning environment.
· Reconnect with their peers.
· Continue working toward their educational goals.
The sooner they return, the better their chances of reintegrating smoothly and regaining confidence in their studies.
