A Son’s Dream Shattered by a Workplace Accident
In December 2022, 27-year-old Akash left his home and beloved family, carrying their hopes for a brighter future. As the only son, he set out to Singapore to work as a general worker, determined to provide for his mother. But just six months later, his dreams were shattered by a workplace accident that changed everything.
A Fall That Left Akash Injured and Helpless
On 8 June 2023, while rushing to complete a task in the shipyard, Akash slipped from a 1.2m ladder. The impact was devastating—he sustained a head wound that required stitches and suffered injuries to his elbow, knee, and back. He was hospitalised for six days at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, and since then, life has been at a painful standstill.
Trapped in Limbo, Unable to Return Home
For the past 1.5 years, Akash has been unable to return home to his mother without the compensation he deserves. He cannot work while waiting for his case to be assessed under the Work Injury Compensation Act (WICA). Instead, he holds a Special Pass that needs renewal every two weeks—a constant reminder of his uncertain future.
Unlike citizens, who have the stability of staying in Singapore, Akash must fight to remain legally, feeling trapped and powerless.
A Mother’s Strength, A Son’s Hope
Through this difficult time, Akash’s mother has been his unwavering source of strength. Despite her own struggles, she encourages him to stay in Singapore and fight for what is rightfully his.
“Be patient, my son. If I could, I want to give you money so that you can go to treatment. But I don’t have the money.”
Akash clings to her words, staying strong for her, knowing that with fair compensation, he can finally return home, seek proper treatment, and relieve his mother of her worries.
How You Can Make a Difference
We are raising $1,200 to support Akash’s basic living expenses for the next six months while he waits for his WICA assessment to be completed. This amount will help him stay in Singapore, as his mother wishes, and cover his essential needs during this uncertain time.
Your support, no matter the amount, will give Akash the chance to stay patient, hold on to hope, and ultimately reunite with his family.
Let’s stand with Akash—help him take the next step toward healing and home.
