The Struggle

Kumar, 27, and Sathya, 30, are both first-time drug offenders. Most would agree that second chances are an important part of growing and learning, but when it comes to drug addiction, stigma very often limits the opportunities of those who are ready to start over in recovery. The two brothers are determined to turn over a new leaf for the sake of their elderly mum who is critically ill. They are regretful of their actions and are actively taking courses in the hope of finding a new job to support their elderly parents when they are released.

Give Hope

Kumar and Sathya expressed that with them staying in the halfway house, they are most worried about the elderly parents back home. The couple lives in a 2 room rental flat and their mum is wheelchair bound and suffers from a series of chronic illnesses. Despite his dad also suffering from health problems and back issues, he is left with little choice but to work hard to bring home income for the family, now that his two sons are away. They regret putting their parents through this and hope to right their wrongs when they are released. Both brothers have experience working in the logistics sector and with the courses that they are currently taking to upgrade themselves, they yearn for a job that pays them well enough for them to support their parents. Unfortunately, they are still in the halfway house and must wait until January 2019 to start working. Sathya also suffers from bladder issues and requires medical scanning every month. He is having financial difficulties as each scanning costs about $150. On top of that, they also have transportation and food expenses.

Thus, ROHI is raising $200 each to help with their daily arrears for 3 months before they are released in January.

ROHI would like to raise $1,200 ($200 x 3 months for Sathya and $200 x 3 months for Kumar) to support them as they turn over a new leaf!
