In October 2024, Mdm Devi reached out to us in her moment of need. As a mother with chronic asthma, she is medically unfit for work, leaving her unable to provide for her family in the way she hopes. Late last year, Mdm Devi suffered a fractured ankle and a significant neck inflammation causing pain. These cause her more worries for her family. Instead of simply letting her children fend for themselves, Mdm Devi chose to take action, seeking resources to help her family sustain and thrive. This is where we can step in and offer our support.
Commitment in loving her children
Despite her chronic health condition, she tries hard to secure her children’s futures. Her youngest child is preparing for the N-levels, while her fourth child is on the verge of enlisting. Mdm Devi refuses to let her own struggles limit their opportunities. She shares, “I’m always thinking, what can I do next to help myself? I don’t want to only be reliant on others.” Her resilience is a testament to her deep commitment to her family, and her determination to support her children fully.
Mdm Devi’s chronic asthma leaves her medically unfit for work, but she hasn’t let this stop her from exploring options to sustain her family. With the support of Ray of Hope, she’s been able to meet her family’s basic needs while she continues to work towards a long-term solution. Mdm Devi has recently connected with Comcare to seek their support, and with help from her family service centre, she has applied for a draw down from the Dependent Protection Scheme (DPS). While she is hopeful about the outcome, processing time could take 6 weeks or more.
While waiting for her DPS application to be processed, Mdm Devi needs support to cover her family’s living expenses. We are helping her with three months of living assistance, $650 per month, to ease the financial pressure and provide the stability her family needs during this period. This will give her body time to heal from her neck and ankle injuries, while she follows through with her DPS claims.
Mdm Devi’s journey is one of courage, love, and resilience. With your help, we can ensure that Mdm Devi has the breathing room to focus on her family’s future.
