Daniel grew up in Batam, Indonesia, where his mother works as a teacher and cares for his younger brother. In 2020, Daniel’s father passed away, leaving his mother to raise the family alone. Despite her limited income, she wanted Daniel to have a better education and brighter future than she could provide at home. With deep faith and courage, she made the hard decision to send him to Singapore in 2023 so he could continue his studies.

For a while, help came from friends and the church community. A close friend of Daniel’s mother previously sponsored his secondary school fees, while a local church covered his living expenses. But as of February 2025, those supports stopped.

Now in his first year of junior college, Daniel works hard to keep up with his studies despite struggling to afford his school fees. A church community has taken him in, giving him a roof over his head, while another organisation has agreed to cover his subsequent monthly school fees. 

Resilient, Talented, and Driven

Daniel’s story is not only about struggle, it is also about hope, ambition, and resilience. From young, he dreamed of becoming an engineer and joined his robotics club to sharpen his skills. His favourite subjects are mathematics and physics, and in both 2024 and 2025, he competed in the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad. In 2024, he proudly earned a bronze medal.

Daniel’s talents stretch beyond academics. He plays the piano, sang in his secondary school choir, and now performs with his junior college symphonic band. He is well spoken, mild mannered, and deeply motivated to succeed, not just for himself, but for his family.

Despite his grit, Daniel now faces the possibility of losing everything he has worked for. He has secured help from an organisation to cover his school fees moving forward. But he still has $8,816.01 in arrears from March to September 2025. Without clearing this, he risks expulsion and the revocation of his Student Pass, jeopardizing two years of hard work and his chance to build the future he envisions.
