She tells us that if it is during the harvest season, she can earn up to S$120 a month, however on most months she earns less than that.
The Struggle
In order to better provide for her son and her elderly parents, she came to Singapore on the 18th of May 2017 to work as a domestic worker for a Singaporean family. Mdm Aye informs us that for nearly 2 ½ months she was abused by her female employer. Recounting the abuse, Mdm Aye informs us that she was repeatedly slapped, hit by a pan, choked twice and was kicked on her shoulders.
Mdm Aye told us that she finally escaped on the 9th of August 2017 with the help of a friend. She has been staying in a shelter since and is currently under police investigation.
Give Hope – Help Needed
Mdm Aye never received her salary as she had to pay off the agent loan for 6 months. Her son is currently being cared for by her parents and she has not seen her only child since May 2017. She deeply misses him and worries for his well being as her parents are struggling to look after him. While Mdm Aye’s older sister is working and gives some money to their parents, the amount is insufficient.
Ray of Hope would like to raise S$800 (S$200 x 4 months) in order to defray her son and her parent’s living expenses for 4 months. Please give hope to Mdm Aye during this very difficult time!
* Name has been changed to protect the identity of Mdm Aye as her case is still under police investigation
