What happened to Dulal?
On 7 September 2022, Dulal was working at the construction site, doing hacking work when concrete and tiles unexpectedly rained down on him, injuring his right hand. Dulal was hospitalised and underwent surgery for torn tendons in his right hand the following day. Post-surgery, he has attended 6-7 physiotherapy sessions. In spite of his, his fourth finger did not fully recover and he worries that he may not regain his full strength and hence impact his ability to take on future jobs.
Dulal was issued 57 days of medical leave. Unfortunately, he has only received partial MC wages of $3,000 covering 2 months of pay. The sole breadwinner has remitted this home, anxious about his current inability to provide for his family.

33 year-old Dulal is from Bangladesh and is the sole breadwinner of his family of 8. After paying approximately $1,000 in agent fee, Dulal was employed to work in Singapore as a Driver, only to be assigned by his employer to do hacking which he had no experience in. Earning approximately $1,500 a month, Dulal would remit the bulk of his salary to his family for their living expenses, keeping around $300 to $400 for himself.
Dulal’s mother is undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer, and also suffers from heart problems. His father suffers from general malaise and poor health. Apart from his parents, Dulal also supports three younger siblings with their living and schooling expenses.
Since his accident, Dulal is under immense stress as the family has lost their main source of income. He shares:
“I am the only one who can take care of my family. I don’t dare to imagine how my family is surviving now.”
