Support Emma and Her Daughter Through a Temporary Income Gap
Holding On to a Fresh Start
Emma thought she had finally reached a turning point. After years of raising her daughter on her own and overcoming two battles with cervical and skin cancer, she had saved enough to move from a rental flat into a 3-room BTO with her 7-year-old. It was meant to be a new beginning.
But in the past year, things shifted quickly. Emma lost her job just as she received the keys to her new home. Since then, her savings have been exhausted on essential expenses such as medical insurance, school fees, and daily living costs.
While she is currently in remission, Emma now requires urgent scans for a bleeding cyst. With no stable income, she is facing both health uncertainty and the risk of being unable to sustain her new home.
Working Towards Stability
Despite these challenges, Emma has continued to take active steps forward. She completed an F&B certification and is working closely with Workforce Singapore’s job support programmes to secure employment, and is actively seeking employment opportunities through a network of social service agencies.
Even as she manages ongoing medical reviews and cares for her daughter alone, Emma has remained proactive in getting back on her feet. She is doing everything she can to secure a steady income.
However, this period between recovery and re-employment has been difficult to manage alone. With her health requiring attention and her savings running low, she is in a period where expenses are running without any income. Her situation is not due to a lack of effort, but a matter of timing and limited support.
How Your Support Helps
Emma has applied for assistance through the Social Service Office, but processing timelines may take up to six weeks. This support will help bridge the immediate gap, ensuring she can focus on her health and secure employment without the added stress of acute financial strain.
Ray of Hope is raising $4,072* to help Emma cover essential living expenses over the next four months while she continues searching for stable employment.
Your support of $1,000 per month will go toward the following basic needs:
- Groceries and sundry items — $650
- Household Expenses — $200
- Daughter’s School Expenses — $150
*The campaign goal includes a 1.8% payment processing fee.
