An Urgent Update
Flora has returned to Philippines and is undergoing Chemotherapy to treat her Myeloma. However, this is insufficient to battle her Myeloma, and doctors are recommending for her to undergo a stem cell transplant.
During chemotherapy, cancerous cells are killed by the cytotoxic agents that cannot discriminate between cancerous or fast-growing healthy cells. Hence normal cells are also frequently damaged in the treatment process. It also often leads to low blood count, causing extreme fatigue and increased risk of serious infection.
This is the side effect that the stem-cell transplant attempts to reverse; healthy bone marrow reintroduces functional stem cells to replace the cells lost during treatment. The transplanted cells also generate an immune response that helps to kill off the cancer cells.
Flora’s Myeloma is spreading and requires urgent treatment; your generous gift will enable her to undergo her doctor’s recommended treatment.
An unexpected crisis
We are reaching out with an urgent plea for assistance on behalf of Flora. She is a remarkable individual who has dedicated the past 14 years of her life to serving three households as a domestic helper in Singapore.
Recently, Flora received the devastating diagnosis of Myeloma, a type of blood cancer. Battling this illness takes an immense toll on her physical well-being. This is compounded by the fact that Flora cannot renew her contract due to her medical condition. This not only jeopardises her access to crucial treatment options but also strains her ability to provide for her family.
As a single parent, Flora has been the bedrock of her family’s financial stability. She supports her two daughters—one on the brink of graduating from university while the other prepares for her higher education journey next year. Additionally, Flora has consistently supported her siblings and their families during financial hardships, demonstrating remarkable strength and resilience.
A call for help
As Flora prepares to return to the Philippines in May 2024 for continued treatment and care, we are rallying together to raise $60,443.63* to alleviate her financial burden. This amount seeks to cover her medical treatment expenses in Singapore and upon her return home.
Flora’s employers, past and present, have generously ensured she receives full wages while on medical leave and has contributed financial gifts according to their means to support her during this trying time.
Your contribution, regardless of its size, can profoundly impact Flora’s life and the lives of her loved ones. Help ensure Flora receives the care and support she needs to navigate this challenging chapter and continue providing for her family.
*Recommended Campaign amount of $60,443.63 comprises the following:
Full SG treatment amount: $41,243.63
Wages lost from the next contract: $19,200
NOTE: Insurance is likely to cover $21,868.97, but it is recommended that full treatment costs in SG be raised as her wages of $800 for the next two years ($19,200) are insufficient to cover her estimated treatment costs in the Philippines ($24,000).
A personal appeal from Denny, Flora’s past employer:
Flora worked for me from 2014 to 2021. During that time, she was the primary caregiver for my two young children.
She is a genuinely caring person who has sacrificed tremendously to help raise her two lovely daughters, now 22 and 18, through college. Despite not having the constant presence of a mother (and unfortunately no father’s presence), both girls have grown into fine young ladies.
Her diagnosis of Myeloma in Jan this year has come as a real shock for everyone who knows her. After all the hardship that she went through in her life, first helping to support her own siblings and then later in life to bring up her daughters – Of all people to be able to have a bit of good fortune after working so hard for so many years, that should have been her.
We are setting up this crowdfunding campaign to appeal to our network and public to help raise some much-needed funds, as this terrible form of cancer requires up to 2 years of treatment.
Sincere Regards,
Denny

Fundraising Campaign Update: Flora's Journey of Hope and Healing
Oct 15, 2024
Dear Donors,
We wanted to take a moment to share the latest news on Flora’s journey and express our heartfelt gratitude for your continued support.
Treatment Progress
Flora has been undergoing treatment in the Philippines. She has been making steady progress and is currently in her 9th round of chemotherapy. Due to the number of patients, wait time is frequently long between sessions, but she is taking this in her stride. Treatment costs continue to be high, and with no wages coming in, they prove to be a challenge for her to navigate.
Health Improvements
We’re pleased to share that there have been noticeable improvements in Flora’s overall health. However, before she can proceed to the crucial transplant procedure, her medical team needs to see consistently good laboratory results. Flora and her healthcare providers are working diligently towards this goal, and your positive thoughts and support are making a real difference.
Home Sweet Home
One of the brightest spots in this challenging time has been the incredible support of Flora’s family. She’s so grateful to be at home, surrounded by their love and care. Flora’s daughters have been amazing, ensuring that she’s eating healthy, nutritious meals and maintaining a positive environment.
Looking Ahead
While Flora still has a way to go, each day brings her closer to her goal. Your support has been instrumental in making this treatment possible, and we can’t thank you enough for standing with her through this journey. We’ll continue to keep you updated on Flora’s progress. Thank you for your continued generosity and kindness – you continue to inspire her and give her strength.
Much gratitude from all of us!

Great news! Flora has responded well to her therapy in Singapore, and her renewed strength brings renewed hope.
As we inch closer to Flora’s date of departure, we received news from her doctor that his recommended treatment would be for her to go through a Stem Cell transplant in the Philippines.
While we have transferred the funds raised for her, we are still a long way from the target. Continued treatment once she is back in the Philippines will be vital to Flora’s future. Any amount you contribute will go towards giving Flora and her family a fighting chance.
