The Struggle

Mr R fell down a slope while cutting grass in August 2018, injuring his lower back and fracturing his right hand. He informed his boss, but nothing was done. 10 days later, his boss gave him $40 to visit a doctor. He continued to work for 10 days but was not permitted to sign the attendance sheet. 1 month after the accident, he reported the injury to MOM and went to the doctor to take an X-ray which then showed a fracture.

The 35-year-old was also caught up in a salary dispute. He was promised a salary of $400 per month but only received $150 for 6 months. His employer claimed it was for his agent’s fees but Mr R had already paid a large sum back in Bangladesh to come to Singapore. His agent became uncontactable.

Give Hope – Help Needed

Mr R was not compensated for any of his MC wages, nor his food and living expenses. He was housed in a dormitory in Tuas but had to travel to Hougang if he wanted to eat the meals that would be provided by the employer. He has not been given any transport allowance during his injury, nor any reimbursement for medical bills – no Letter of Guarantee has been provided by his employer for his medical treatments. He has a large debt in Bangladesh and a family to support.

Financial Breakdown

Ray of Hope is raising $920 ($230 x 4 months) for Mr R’s living expenses in Singapore while he awaits closure of his case.
