Hasib came to Singapore to escape poverty but was injured instead
Campaign started on 22/02/2021Campaign Story
Hasib, 36 years old, came to Singapore in 2008 in order to escape poverty and to support his family of 3 in Bangladesh. He worked as a general construction worker for seven days a week, earning about $1,100 per month. Hasib would remit about $800 of his salary to his family while the remaining amount is used for his living expenses here in Singapore.
On 21 September 2019, while Hasib was working at a construction site, a metal bar suddenly dropped on him. This resulted in the dislocation of his shoulder and a fractured cervical spine. He was immediately bought to the hospital where he received treatment and was warded there for three weeks. Hasib subsequently spent the next one month in a nursing home to recover from his injury. Till today, Hasib was observed to be limping due to his injury.
It has since been more than one year since the accident and in order to continue to support his family, Hasib had to borrow money from his friends so that he could send money home to his family. As the sole provider of his family, Hasib has to support his elderly mother who is suffering from diabetes and ischemic stroke. In addition, he has to support his wife and 5-year-old daughter.
Ray of Hope would like to raise S$3,120 to defray Hasib’s living expenses and to send remittances home to his family (S$780 x 4 months) while he recovers.
