Be the first to donate to Support Daud as He Rebuilds Life After His Accident

Daud came to Singapore from Bangladesh in June 2023 with one goal — to build a better future for his family. Back home, the 36-year-old supports his elderly mother, wife, and young daughter, all of whom depend on his income.

On 13 September 2025, everything changed.

Daud was working as a Lifting Supervisor at a construction site during a rainstorm when he slipped and fell from height, onto a rebar that pierced through his right leg into his body.

Following an eight-hour delay before receiving specialised care, doctors informed him that his survival chances were low. Since then, Daud has undergone multiple surgeries — including operations on his leg and stomach for internal bleeding, kidney dialysis, and treatment for a minor stroke.

Today, although his kidneys are slowly recovering, doctors have shared that his right leg may only regain 30% to 40% functionality even after full recovery. He will likely depend on a walker permanently and may never return to physically demanding construction work again.

How he’s trying

Daud’s recovery has been physically and emotionally exhausting.

For months, he struggled with severe pain, poor vision, and drastic weight loss. The trauma of repeated surgeries left him fearful and overwhelmed, and he initially resisted physiotherapy. Over time, regular counselling sessions helped him regain the emotional strength to continue treatment.

Now, he attends physiotherapy twice daily and continues pushing himself through recovery.

Despite everything, Daud continues to think about the future. Knowing he may never regain full mobility, he hopes to one day return home and open a small grocery shop in his village selling rice, milk, and biscuits.

Daud’s struggles

Daud’s work permit was cancelled on 24 December 2025 and he is currently on Special Pass. Although the company continues paying his medical leave allowance and covers major medical treatment, daily survival remains difficult.

The dormitory catering does not provide food suitable for someone recovering from serious injuries. Daud currently relies on small loans from his relatives to buy groceries, fruits, and meals outside the dormitory.

Recently, his company also declined to provide a Letter of Guarantee for medication costs during a medical appointment, leaving Daud anxious about handling urgent healthcare expenses moving forward.

At the same time, his family in Bangladesh continues depending on him financially.

Why now

Daud is currently waiting for a final medical assessment, likely in July or August 2026, which will determine his long-term condition and future options.

Until then, he remains unable to work and has no independent source of income. Without support, he risks falling deeper into debt simply to survive day to day in Singapore while continuing rehabilitation.

The stress of worrying about food, medical costs, and his family’s survival back home also affects his recovery.

“Maybe my family and I will be able to live well for a few days,” Daud wrote in his appeal for help.

What the money will cover

Ray of Hope aims to raise $2,730 ($455/ month) to support Daud for the next six months while he continues treatment and awaits his final medical assessment. This support will go towards his groceries and medical needs.

The funds will help relieve immediate financial pressure so Daud can focus on rehabilitation without relying on informal loans for basic survival. Your support can help him get through this difficult period with dignity — ensuring he has access to proper meals, medical support, and daily necessities while he focuses on recovery.
