Medical Condition
Aisyah* is 10 years old and suffers from multiple chronic illnesses. She suffers from global developmental delay, multiple birth defects which contributes to her long-term physical and cognitive disability and an undeveloped brain. She was also born with a right cleft palate which has since been corrected. She is non-communicative and has weak lower limbs. Aisyah is currently schooling in a special needs school and attends speech therapy after school.
Aisyah started walking in the middle of last year after undergoing many years of intensive physiotherapy. Even though she is now able to walk, she is only able to walk for short periods of time and requires someone to be by her side while she walks in case she falls. Due to her severe flat foot, Aisyah requires a special insole which is not subsidised. A special insole will aid her walking as it will be less painful and uncomfortable.
Caregiver’s Struggle
Mdm Nurul*, 37 years old, is a devoted mother to Aisyah. Her husband works long and odd hours as a private bus driver however, his salary is insufficient to fully provide for the family. Ray of Hope previously assisted Mdm Nurul and her special needs daughter for 6 months to defray Aisyah’s diapers and milk powder expenses. However, the family still struggles with Aisyah’s expenses as her condition is permanent.
It is not easy caring for Aisyah. Even though she is now able to walk for short periods of time, she does not have the cognitive ability to be able to look after herself and is completely reliant on her mother for every aspect of her day to day living. Like all caregiver, Mdm Nurul suffers from caregiver’s fatigue.
Help Needed – Give Hope
Caring for Aisyah is long term and Mdm Nurul has no respite. Not only does she have to worry about her daughter’s wellbeing, Mdm Nurul struggles financially.
Ray of Hope would therefore like to raise S$1,250:
S$500 for Aisyah’s special insole
S$750 (S$250 x 3 months) for Aisyah’s milk powder and diapers expenses
* Names have been changed to protect the identity of Aisyah as she is only 10 years old
* Mdm Nurul is not receiving SSO assistance
