The Struggle
According to Mr Koh’s social worker, the 65-year-old does not have a place he can call home and resides on the balcony of a rental flat. Although he insists that he has a place to stay and pays rent to his roommate for space in a one-room rental flat, the 65-year-old often does not have access to the flat. In fact, he was seen on many occasions living along the corridors. Mr Koh is wheelchair bound and suffers from Autonomic Dysfunction, where he has difficulties getting around. He has also lost all senses and motion of his hands and legs.
Thus, Â it is unthinkable how the 65-year-old has to live in such an environment. Him living in public spaces has also made him vulnerable to theft as he has lost his personal belongings on many occasions.
Give Hope
Mr Koh was a healthy individual who was self-sufficient. He used to work as a cleaner and dishwasher before he suffered a fall in January 2018. The fall has caused severe implications on his health where he suffers from Central Cord Syndrome and Autonomic Dysfunction. Mr Koh only has himself to rely on as he shares an estranged relationship with his only sister. Now, he gets around in his wheelchair spending his day at seniors activity centre and night residing in public space. His social worker also informed us that because Mr Koh has no physical lodging, he comes into the centre to bathe once every month.
His social worker has advised him to go to HDB to request for a rental unit and Mr Koh is keen to do so but has difficulties forking out money for his transport needs. The social worker also informed us that because of his complex medical conditions, Mr Koh is required to go for 2-3 follow-ups monthly. The 65-year-old is reluctant to go for medical appointments due to the lack of funds. Because he is wheelchair bound and relatively weak, the only viable option of cabs is too expensive for him. Hence, ROHI would like to raise funds to cover his transportation needs!
Financial Breakdown
ROHI would like to raise $600.00 ($100 x 6 months) for Mr Koh’s transportation needs so that he can continue going for his medical appointments and also an opportunity to have proper lodging! Please give hope and help the 65-year-old. With your $100, he can go for medical appointments for a month!
*Mr Koh is currently receiving minimal SSO assistance and is using it for his food and rental expenses
*The full amount will be used solely for his transportation needs and Mr Koh’s social worker will compile the receipts and send it to ROHI as part of our due diligence process.
