Background
Mr P*, 26 years old, comes from a rural part of India where crippling poverty is strive. He is also the family’s sole breadwinner and in order to provide a better life for his family, he took on a bank loan of nearly S$6,000 in order to work as a construction worker in Singapore.
The Accident
Mr P’s life has been unfortunate and difficult. He was injured on his first day of work. On the 12th of April 2019, he reported to work for the first time and was tasked to shift heavy items around on the ground floor. Above him, two of his colleagues who were carrying a 1,000kg electrical banner lost control and the banner fell onto Mr P and sliced across his left ankle. As a result, Mr P suffered a horrific gaping open wound that needed more than 20 stitches to close the wound. Due to the workplace accident, Mr P is now unable to walk well.
Mr P is currently on Special Pass and is awaiting compensation from MOM. He was given 3 months of MC and received his MC Wages. He remitted most of the money home however, the amount is insufficient to provide for his family long term. As the accident occurred on his first day on the job, he did not receive any salary. To make matters worse, in the beginning of July this year, his 23-year-old brother encountered an accident in India and dislocated his right shoulder. His family is unable to pay for the surgery and his younger brother has since been living in pain and unable to move the right side of his body.
Give Hope – Help Needed
Ray of Hope would like to raise S$1,500 (S$300 x 5 months) to defray his family’s living expenses while Mr P awaits compensation from MOM. Please give hope to Mr P and his family!
