Campaign update: Ray of Hope has extended Wenhao’s campaign and will be raising an additional $8,885 to help him with 5 months of school fees ($1,777 x 5 months) till he completes his JC course.

The Struggle

Wenhao, 18 years old, is a student studying at a local Junior College. Born in the Henan Province of China, Wenhao’s mum made the decision to sent him to Singapore when he was merely in Primary School. She hoped that Wenhao will receive the best education possible in order to break free from poverty.

Over the years, Wenhao has been relying on public donations from charitable and religious organisations to pay for his school fees so that he can continue schooling. However, the donations could not be stretched long enough to continue supporting Wenhao until he completes his course.

Help Needed – Give Hope

Wenhao has been forced to be independent since an early age; his father passed away from pneumonia when he was merely a year old. His mother subsequently remarried and although Wenhao still keeps in contact with her occasionally, she does not support him financially after having a family of her own.

Our case managers who met Wenhao could feel his sense of helplessness, especially when his school presses him for payment every month. The shy and reserved Wenhao is immensely grateful to the people who have helped him over the years. He told us that while lacking a source of income and having to constantly rely on donations may not seem like a sustainable life to many, he will give it his best so that he can make his parents proud. Wenhao has an elder brother (25 years old) in China, but is unable to work since he was diagnosed with some form of mental illness.

Financial Breakdown

As Wenhao is a non-Singaporean, he does not qualify for any government assistance schemes for subsidies on his school fees.

ROH would like to support 18-year-old Wenhao by helping him with his school fees of S$19,524 (S$1,627 x 12 months) so that he can continue schooling. Payment will be made directly to the school.
