Help Haque Hold On as He Waits for His Injury Claim
Two years ago, Haque left home with hopes of providing a better future for his family.
He worked just to send back every dollar he could to support his wife and two children. His eldest daughter is now in her final year of university, studying mathematics. A dream made possible by her father’s sacrifices. His younger son, too, is studying hard, inspired by Haque’s dedication.
A spinal injury changed everything
On 28 January 2023, while carrying 50kg rolls of waterproofing material up a ladder to a rooftop, Haque suffered a severe spinal injury. The moment he set the load down, he knew something was wrong. He could no longer bend his lower body.
He was brought to a clinic. But instead of receiving proper care, he was left alone. It was only after concerned clinic staff and members of the public stepped in that he called for an ambulance.
A Future on Hold
9 months after the incident, doctors warned Haque that without surgery, his condition could worsen, potentially affecting his lungs and heart.
Yet he’s still waiting.
His medical leave wages ended in January 2024, and for over a year now, Haque has been relying on friends and occasional aid to survive. His Workplace Injury claim remains unresolved. Hes’ far from home, without income, and without any semblance of clarity.
Holding onto hope for his family
Haque dreams of the day he can return home: “I just want to see my daughter graduate. To give my son the chance I never had.”
He knows he can’t return to physical labour. Instead, he hopes to start a small business back in Bangladesh to rebuild his independence and continue supporting his children’s education.
But right now, he just needs help to get through the next six months. “I can’t work like before. But I haven’t given up on my family or myself.”
How You Can Help
Ray of Hope is raising $1,800 to support Haque’s basic living expenses—just $300 a month for six months.
Your donation will help cover:
– Daily meals
– Shelter
– Essential daily needs
More than anything, it will give Haque the dignity and peace of mind to persevere through this uncertain time.
