The Accident
On 5th December 2018, Hasan Anamul met with an accident on the construction site when an exiting dump truck rolled over a 2.5 tonne metal slab which had fallen on his right foot, trapping his foot under the plate, crushing his foot. Although Hasan was wearing safety boots, the impact was so great the boot cracked open. Two of his colleagues tried to move him but they failed. It finally took five to six of his colleagues to lift the metal plate before moved Hasan and his bloody foot to safety. Hasan sustained 12 stitches on his foot, a decompressed bone above his big left toe, and severe injuries on his back and left shoulders.
Instead of sending him to the hospital, his company sent him instead to one of their appointed clinics where he was only prescribed painkillers and 21 days of light duty. When the pain persisted, Hasan was finally brought to A&E of a restricted hospital. The specialist, seeing the severity of the injury, gave him close to 2 months of medical leave. Although Hasan’s Hasan’s MCs ended on 20th July 2019, his employer did not want to admit to his back and shoulder injury, causing his work injury case to drag on further due to pre-hearing conferences at MOM. He is currently still in Singapore, more than 1 year after his injury, but is still not able to earn an income due to his ongoing work injury case. His employer also did not provide him with upkeep for food.
Help Needed
To work in Singapore, Hasan took up loans from his fellow villagers in order to pay S$5,000 for his agency fees. The loan remains unpaid to date. As he could not work after his accident, he had to take another loan of S$2,000 for his living expenses.
Hasan is the sole breadwinner of his family and worked 7 days a week in order to support his family of 6 – aged father (semi paralysed), housewife mother, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters one of whom was recently married, who’s dowry, his family had no choice but to pay.
Anamul’s father suffers from arthritis, but as Anamul has not been receiving an income since July 2019 when his MCs stopped, his family had to sell their rice stock reserve last month. It sold for only 51000 taka (836 SGD) to pay for his father’s medical expenses and his family’s living expenses.
His youngest brother who studies engineering in Rumdo Institute of Modern Technology. But because Anamul was unable to support his brother’s school fees, his brother was told by the school that he could not attend lessons in the past semester. It only allowed him to return mid-way on condition that Anamul pays the school fees at the end of semester, in December 2019. However, Anamul’s might not be able to pay it now that his work injury claim has not yet concluded. Anamul’s brother requires around $300 SGD for his monthly dormitory rental and monthly food expenses, and $700 SGD for the full semester’s fee.
Financial breakdown
Ray of Hope would like to raise $5050 for Hasan and his family. $1,800 for his brother’s dormitory and food expenses for one semester ($300 per month), the semester’s school fees of $700 and $2550 for his father’s medical expenses and family’s basic expenses for another 3 months ($850 a month).
