Janead used to work as a construction worker performing maintenance, repairing and fitting works for air-conditioning in buildings.
On 8 November 2018, he was repairing the air-conditioning in the chiller room a mall when he fell 4 meters from height and sustained multiple fractures along his spine, and ribs. The most damaging being the fracture of his spine around his neck level, causing him to lose the use of his legs and most sensation in them. He has also lost most of the use in his upper body except the lifting up his upper hands but has lost function of his finger’s fine motor movements. His spine at the neck-to-chest level is now supported by two metal rods and screws.
Janaed is barely able to feed himself now and needs 2 people at any one time in his Activities of Daily Living (eating, moving, toileting). Janaed needs continuing medication for his regular bowel movements and also suffers from spasms. ). He now still suffers from Delusional Disorder for which he is also taking medication. He will likely never be able to work again.
Janaed, is the sole breadwinner of his family supporting a wife, 28 years old, and two sons ages 3 and 5.
Janaed is now in Alexandra Hospital awaiting repatriation. However, there are deep concern for his care needs when he returns home. Janaed will need to be first checked into a hospital for assessment, to ensure that he is safe to return home. This will likely cost $200SGD a month. Alone, Janaed’s wife will also not be able to manage the caregiving of Janaed together with that of her children. The family might therefore be required to hire a caregiver helper to assist with caregiving responsibilities for Janaed. A full-time caregiver in Bangladesh would likely cost around $200 SGD a month. As Janaed is the sole breadwinner, his family would also be without an income.
Financial breakdown
Ray of Hope would like to raise a total of $12,000 for Janaed.
The $6,000 for hospitalization, caregiver, and living expenses for Janaed and his family for the next one year, ($500/month)Â
Janaed’s current home is also unable to fit his hospital bed and accommodate his toileting needs. Janaed’s family is therefore looking to construct a new structure big enough to house his hospital bed and an attached toilet, to efficiently handle his hygiene and toileting needs. The total cost for the structure is about $20,000 – 30,000. We would like to raise $6000 to partially cover the cost of the building structure.
