For many of us, home is a place of comfort, love, and security. But for Rekha, her husband Vikram, and their 6-year-old son Rohan, their current living space serves as a painful reminder of past trauma and ongoing struggles. As a survivor of domestic abuse that occurred in this very house, Ct battles PTSD triggers daily from her unchanged environment, resulting in severe insomnia, depression, and anxiety.
A Family’s Daily Struggle
The physical conditions only compound their suffering—Rekha and Vikram sleep on a broken sofa bed causing back pain and worsening her eczema, which sometimes requires hospitalisation due to stress, heat, and dust exposure. They lack even basic storage for clothes, forcing them to hang items throughout their cramped home. Their young son Rohan has no dedicated study space and must complete homework on the floor, affecting both his posture and ability to concentrate.
The kitchen has become unusable with a rusty, mouldy stove preventing Rekha from cooking the home-cooked meals Rohan loves, and without a working hot water boiler, they’re reduced to heating water in the microwave. With no dining table or chairs, the family eats their meals on the floor using disposable cutlery. Privacy concerns keep windows permanently closed, creating poor ventilation throughout the home. Perhaps most concerning, their limited indoor space forces Rohan to play in the corridor outside, exposing him to potential safety risks. With Vikram working irregular jobs, the family struggles financially and cannot afford to make necessary improvements to their home.
How You Can Help Transform Their Lives
We aim to raise $4,782.71 to fund essential renovations and furniture to create a functional, peaceful home. Your contributions will provide:
- Painting works to refresh and create a new beginning
- A new bed for Rekha and Vikram to improve their sleep and health
- Proper storage solutions for clothes and household items
- A study desk and chair for Rohan to focus on his studies
- A functional kitchen setup including a stove and hot water boiler
- Dining furniture so the family can eat together at a table
- Privacy enhancements like secure window tinting and curtains
What Home Means to This Family
A renovation would not just improve their living conditions—it would provide Rekha a chance to heal from her trauma and give this deserving family the foundation they need to rebuild their lives with dignity and hope. Rekha dreams of hosting Rohan’s birthday party for the first time—a simple joy that has never been possible before.
When asked what “home” means to them:
Rohan simply says: “Cooking”, while Vikram shares: “A place of love”.
A Message in Their Own Words
