Campaign Update (08/06/2022)
Dear Donors,
On the 4th July, Jenny was accompanied by her sister June in a land ambulance to a hospital in Malaysia. While she is stable, but there has been no significant improvements to her condition since our last update.
We have made payment of $4,800 for the ambulance costs. This was lower than our initial estimates, so the rest of the funds earmarked for the ambulance costs will be channeled for her other medical needs.
Ray of Hope is working closely with the hospital to settle the final payment. Her estimated medical fees in Singapore has gone up since the campaign started. Therefore, Ray of Hope will be raising an additional $80,000 to assist with her medical fees. Any remaining amount after the payment to the hospital in Singapore will go towards Jenny’s medical & living expenses in Malaysia.
As Jenny’s family prepares to care for her long term needs, we hope you will continue to share and support the campaign! Thank you again for your generosity, and we will keep everyone posted on her progress.
Campaign Update (13/06/2022)
Dear Donors,
Ray of Hope simply cannot thank you enough for your invaluable contribution to help Jenny and her family!
Ray of Hope will be working closely with the hospital for the bill payment. We have also been getting messages of support from donors who wish to donate more to Jenny even though the campaign has already reached its target. As a public institution, it’s important that we protect the general public’s interest. Here at Ray of Hope, we only seek donations on a need basis. Therefore, users are not able to donate once the campaign goal is reached.
For Jenny’s campaign, rest assured that once we have new information and the updated bills, we will inform donors and update here in the campaign with a new target. When that happens, we hope you will continue to share and support Jenny’s campaign.
Thank you again for your generosity, and we will keep everyone posted on her progress.

On May 13, a fire broke out in the living room of a flat in Block 409 Bedok North and claimed the lives of 3 people, including a 3 year old toddler and her father. The only survivor from the fire was Jenny, the toddler’s mother. She was found unconscious and her entire body was covered in soot. Jenny was in the ICU for 8 days, but her condition has since stabilised and she continues to receive treatment, now recovering in the general ward.
It is still unclear what is the full extent of Jenny’s injury due to significant smoke inhalation. It was observed that she does not seem to be fully aware of her surroundings. The road to recovery will likely be a long and challenging one. Hence, she would need all the help she can get.
“We are a family with humble means. My father works as a car mechanic and I was working as a waitress. We don’t have the financial resources to cover Jenny’s medical expenses.” shared Jenny’s sister, June.
June was previously working as a waitress, but has since left her job to care for her sister full time here in Singapore. Jenny has been living and working here in Singapore for the past 11 years. She sees Singapore as her home and was planning to build a life with her family here.
Ray of Hope caseworkers have spoken with June and she has shared the family’s shock, grief and distress. As a Malaysian, Jenny’s medical bills are not subsidised. The family hopes for Jenny to receive treatment in Malaysia once she is fit for travel as they believe she will heal better around her family.
As part of our verification, we have spoken with Jenny’s sister, her employer, and her medical social worker. We have sighted the medical bills, doctor’s memo and estimated land ambulance costs
Ray of Hope is working with Jenny’s employer and family, as well as Kampong Chai Chee community volunteers, to support with the medical expenses during this difficult period. We are raising $106,089.83 to support Jenny and her family with the following:
- Medical Fees in Singapore: *$98,089.83
- Estimated Repritation Cost to a hospital in Malaysia: **$8,000
- Estimated Medical Fees in Malaysia: TBC
*Medical fees are as of 7 June 2022. As the medical fees are likely to increase, the campaign target will be increased once the updated medical bills are received.
**The vendor will be able to furnish a more accurate quote once the hospital sends in the medical report to them closer to the date of transfer.
