Since starting KampungKakis in April 2020, we have supported over 800 vulnerable families and stay-alone seniors who suffered tremendously from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. As the pandemic is coming to a close, we realised that the older adults amongst our beneficiaries continue to have multiple needs. Of which, the most insidious is loneliness.
We have witnessed seniors whose health and mental health had taken a toll due to the stressors of living alone with limited support. We have seen seniors who yearn for social interaction but are too scared to travel out of their house, for fear of falling or catching COVID.
Your donations will go a long way to support us as we continue to serve more beneficiaries and provide more comprehensive support to each kaki in our community.
Kaki Matching for Seniors
Mdm Chan* is an elderly wheelchair-bound lady who lives alone. She was referred to KampungKakis by her social worker and was soon matched with Amanda, a kaki volunteer who lives near Mdm Chan. Amanda visited Mdm Chan weekly to help her with simple things like tying her hair, buying her favourite food, changing batteries, listening to her share about her week. Amanda also brought Mdm Chan out for a few outings – Changi Jewel, Gardens By The Bay, and so on.
Amanda shared, “For many seniors who have lost their independence to ageing and disease, having someone who cares for them and fulfil their little wishes helps to restore their sense of dignity.”
There are many seniors in the community with similar circumstances as Mdm Chan, and we hope to introduce more wonderful kakis like Amanda so they can have the support they need to get through tough times.
Your donations will go towards our organisational needs, helping us to recruit, train and equip more kaki volunteers to step up and support seniors.
*Names were changed to protect the identity of our beneficiaries.
