Despite her challenges, she believes in giving her time to serving the underprivileged community.

Mdm Haslina has been an active volunteer cook for the past decade. The 49-year-old who is extremely passionate about cooking, was working as a cook until she lost her job in March 2020. Since then, she has been focusing her time and energy on cooking budget meals for the lower-income community who could not afford a meal. Unfortunately, the corridor of her small rental flat caught fire after someone threw a cigarette butt, causing her to lose her big cookware that she uses to cook for her food orders from the volunteer groups.

Her husband is the sole breadwinner of the family, earning about $1200 as a general worker. Mdm Haslina is unable to work due to her multiple health issues. Having suffered two heart attacks, Mdm Haslina’s health has been deteriorating as she also suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, and is on her insulin jabs thrice a day.

Although the family also receives support from the Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) for their 15-year-old son’s school fees, and the Social Service Office (SSO) for their rent, utility and town council bills, Mdm Haslina still needs to pay about $400 a month for her medication as this is not covered by SSO.

Ray of Hope wants to raise $4000 ($800 x 5 months) to support Mdm Haslina while she picks herself up!
